What is an A1 event?


A1 category events refer to the core competition organization work of the event, such as track, measurement, distance, timing, refereeing, doping inspection, etc., which meets the World Athletics Federation, national records, and achievement certification standards (recognition records and standard results).


The results of A1 events are included in the ranking of road running of the Chinese Athletics Association, and can be declared for the public athlete level of road running of the Chinese Athletics Association. After meeting other relevant professional and technical standards, the event can bid for the national championship, championship (inclusive) and above events, and the results created can be declared for national, Asian and world records.


What are the differences between A1, A2, B, and C events?


▍ Event certifications are different

1) A1, A2 and B events: Events certified by the Chinese Athletics Association.


2) Category C events: not certified events by the Chinese Athletics Association, but held for the territory.


▍The organizers are different

1) A1 and A2 events: The organizers must include the people's governments at or above the county level; The event operator must be registered with the Chinese Athletics Association; The organizer has hosted at least 2 road races of the same distance or longer within 2 years.


2) Category B Events: The organizer shall be a unit or institution established or registered in accordance with relevant national laws and regulations, with independent legal personality, and able to independently bear civil liability; The event operator must be registered with the Chinese Athletics Association; The organizer has hosted at least one road running event of the same distance or longer within 2 years.


▍The qualification requirements of the operating unit are different

1) The operating unit of A1, A2 and B events: must be registered on the official website of the Chinese Athletics Association.


2) The operating unit of Class C events: no need to register on the official website of the Chinese Athletics Association.


▍The requirements for running the competition within 14 consecutive days are different

1) Operators of A1, A2 and B events: No more than 2 (can be 2) certified events within 14 consecutive days, and the interval between the 2 events must be more than 8 days (exclusive).


2) The operating unit of Category C events: there is no requirement to hold the number of events within 14 consecutive days.


▍ Result uploads are different

1) The results of A1, A2 and B events will be uploaded to the database of the Chinese Athletics Association.


2) Category C events are non-certified events, and the results of the events cannot be uploaded to the database of the Chinese Athletics Association.


▍ Ranking is different

1) The results of A1 events will be included in the ranking of the road running results database of the Chinese Athletics Association.


2) The results of A2, B, and C events will not be included in the ranking of the road running results database of the Chinese Athletics Association.


▍ The level of the declared public players is different

1) A1 Event: The results of the event can be declared as the level of Chinese road runners.


2) A2, B, and C events: The results of the event cannot be declared for the level of Chinese road runners.


▍Score declaration record

1) A1 Events: The results created can be declared for national, Asian and world records.


2) A2, B, C events: Achievements cannot be declared for national, Asian and world records.


▍The track measurement is different

1) Class A events: The route of non-World Athletics Federation signage events will be measured by the highway surveyor of the Chinese Athletics Association and issue a measurement report, and the track certification certificate of the Chinese Athletics Association will be issued. The World Athletics Federation (IAAF) Label Event requires the World Athletics Federation "B" level (inclusive) or above to measure the track and issue a measurement report, and issue the World Athletics Federation track certification certificate.


2) Class B events: The provincial road running event supervision unit will select and dispatch the highway surveyors of the China Athletics Association to carry out the measurement work.


3) Category C events: For non-certified events of the Chinese Athletics Association, the Chinese Athletics Association and the provincial road running event supervision unit will not select and send surveyors to carry out the measurement work.


▍Logo is used differently

1) A1 and A2 events can use the logo of the Chinese Athletics Association and the logo of the Chinese marathon.


2) Category B events can only use the China Marathon logo.


3) The logo of the Chinese Athletics Association and the logo of the Chinese Marathon cannot be used in category C events.


▍The selection of referees is different

1) A1 events: The event manager should be a national track and field referee, and have at least 2 years of experience in refereeing road running events, and the referees of other major positions (starting orders, check-ins, starting and finishing points, inspections, timing, drinking and drinking, post-race, competition secretary, arbitration) must be national track and field referees.


2) A2 events: The event manager should be a national track and field referee, and have at least 2 years of experience in refereeing road running events, and the referees of other major positions (starting orders, check-ins, starting and finishing points, inspections, timing, drinking and drinking, post-race, competition secretary, arbitration) must be first-class track and field referees.


3) Category B events: The event manager should be a first-class track and field referee of the Chinese Athletics Association, with a complete team of competition judges.


▍ The number of timing points is different

1) Video points should be set up at the starting point, segmented timing point, turnaround point and finish point of the A1 race to record the whole process of the race.


2) Set up race videos at the start, finish, and turnaround points of A2 events.


3) Category B races must be recorded at the finish line.


▍Doping tests are different

1) At least 6 samples of EPO testing (3 males and 3 females) for A1 and A2 events and 3 samples for single-sex events (the samples must be tested at a laboratory recognized by the World Anti-Doping Agency)

2) No doping testing requirements for Category B events.
